Contact the Extension Center in Norwich 887-1608 for information about soil tests.

Or visit the UCONN home and www.ladybug.uconn.edu/garden center

Soil tests are still cheaper than a sack of fertilizer $8.00

At his point you could remove about 1/3 of the length of these branches to stunt them in relation to the rest of the trees growth and then remove them at the branch collar when the timing is optimal.

Removing low branches might mar the overall beauty of the tree so consider it's normal growth patterns along with safety and esthetics.

To encourage the mice to visit the traps put mouse droppings on or around them as well as baiting them. To make them even more attractive provide some cover like a board leaned over the traps against the wall.

Having your soil tested every 3 years is recommended. Once in our hands, the analysis usually takes about 3 to 5 working days. Below are web links to our other web pages that give you detailed instructions on how to collect your soil samples. Do not forget to also fill out the questionnaire so that we know exactly what the recommendation is for (this is because different crops have different requirements). Mail us your soil samples, the completed appropriate questionnaire, plus your payment to:

If you prefer, prepaid soil sample kits which include a questionnaire, plastic bag and mailing envelop can be purchased at the Soil Testing Laboratory (see address above), the Home & Garden Education Center, or your local Cooperative Extension office.
