&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;For more information contact Joan Winters at 443-2837.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;img src="http://zip06.theday.com/aggbug.aspx?PostID=8344" width="1" height="1"&gt;</content><author><name>jwinters</name><uri>http://zip06.theday.com/members/jwinters.aspx</uri></author></entry><entry><title>AWARD WINNING COMPOSERS AND CONDUCTORS TO VISIT WATERFORD HIGH SCHOOL</title><link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://zip06.theday.com/blogs/jwinters/archive/2008/09/30/award-winning-composers-and-conductors-to-visit-waterford-high-school.aspx" /><id>http://zip06.theday.com/blogs/jwinters/archive/2008/09/30/award-winning-composers-and-conductors-to-visit-waterford-high-school.aspx</id><published>2008-09-30T18:27:16Z</published><updated>2008-09-30T18:27:16Z</updated><content type="html">&lt;p&gt;The Waterford High School Orchestra will host 2 awards winning musicians as part of its year long musical events.&amp;nbsp; On November 5th, internationally known conductor and award-winning member of ASCAP composer Elliot Del Borgo will visit Waterford HS and Clark Lane Middle School.&amp;nbsp; He will spend the day working with orchestra students on some of his own works, in addition to his commissioned work for the Waterford High School Orchestra entitled &lt;em&gt;Sinfonia a la Danza&lt;/em&gt;. The piece was commissioned by the Waterford Orchestra Boosters for the 2008/2009 High School Orchestra in recognition of its many years of excellence, growth, and achievement.&amp;nbsp; It will be premiered in the November 19th music department concert.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In addition, to his music for the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, Mr. Del Borgo has published nearly 500 compositions for a variety of media.&amp;nbsp; His music reflects the aesthetics of 20th century musical ideals through its eclectic nature and vigorous harmonic and rhythmic style.&amp;nbsp; He has taught instrumental music in the Philadelphia public schools and was Professor of Music at the Crane School of Music, where he held teaching and administrative positions from 1966-1995.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Later in March 2009, Eastern Connecticut Symphony Conductor finalist David Commanday will visit Waterford High School and work with students.&amp;nbsp; After playing principal cello at Tanglewood for Leondard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, and Aaron Copland, he went on to study conducting.&amp;nbsp; His conducting posts have included Music Director of the Boston Ballet, Music Director of the Greater Boston Youth &amp;nbsp;Symphony Orchestra (GYBSO), Associate Condcutro of the San Diego Symphony, and Associate Conductor of the New Jersey Symphony.&amp;nbsp; Mr. Commanday currently serves as Music Director of the Peoria Symphony.&lt;/p&gt;
