Mohegan Sun Heats up the Summer with Hot Summer Fun 2008

The heat is rising and that can only mean one thing: it’s time for the 11th Annual Hot Summer Fun celebration at Mohegan Sun.  The summer-long festivities include specially-themed days featuring fun festivals, spectacular fireworks, outstanding entertainment, food and drink specials, award-winning authors, idols, stars and lots of cash and prize giveaways.

Beginning June 28th through September 2nd, thousands of guests will win their share of $888,888 with Mohegan Sun’s Hot Dates & Crazy Eights promotion, just by swiping their Player's Club card once a day at any promotional kiosks in Casino of the Earth or Casino of the Sky. Each time a guest swipes their card, they’ll have the chance to receive a game piece.   When they match three game pieces, they win! Any three-card combination will win cash or Player’s Club points ranging from 10 points to $25,000. The more a guest swipes, the more chances they have to win. Patrons can also swipe and win 88, 888 and 8,888 in cash and Player’s Club points instantly.

New for 2008, Hot Summer Fun launches a one-of-a-kind and exciting series called Mohegan Sun’s “Live Idols,” which features former American Idol contestants. 

On select Tuesday’s “Live Idols” will take place with a live, public performance in The Shops at Mohegan Sun Concourse at 7:00pm, followed by a signing event at 7:30pm. The series kicks off on July 1st with Season Four contestant, Constantine Maroulis. 

Each Tuesday during Hot Summer Fun, guests will enjoy deals at some of the best retailers at Mohegan Sun including Spin Street, Yankee Candle and Michael Jordan’s 23.sportcafe as well as two-for-one specials at a number of restaurants including, Ben & Jerry’s, Geno Auriemma’s Fast Break,  Seasons and Sunburst Buffets, Lucky’s Lounge and The Dubliner.

Other dining specials offered throughout Hot Summer Fun only at Mohegan Sun include all-you-can-eat “Peel and Eat Shrimp” at Seasons and Sunburst Buffets; the “Best Breakfast Under the Sun” in Seasons Buffet for $10.50;  Saturday and Sunday breakfast in Birches Bar & Grill from 9:00am to 2:00pm; “Midnight Steak and Eggs” at Fidelia’s from Midnight to 6:00am for $12.95; and early bird dinner specials from 3:00pm to 6:00pm daily at Birches Bar & Grill. 

Join the hottest party of the summer each Wednesday on the rooftop of the Riverview Garage at Mohegan Sun for the 11th Annual “Wild Wednesdays” celebrations. Starting at 5:00pm, get the freshest fruits and vegetables around with a Farmer’s Market while checking out some of the sweetest rides with a Classic Car Show, followed by Mohegan Sun’s Charity Cook-Off competition at 6:00pm. Proceeds from this year’s Cook-Off will benefit the American Red Cross Charter Oak Chapter. The fun continues at 6:00pm
with Mohegan Sun’s third annual Juke Box Hero hosted by Mike English from 102.3 The Wolf. There, sixteen pre-selected contestants will have the opportunity to compete for the top prize of $2,000 and title as 2008’s Juke Box Hero. At 7:30pm, Mohegan Sun and  Clear Channel bring the Sizzling Summer Showdown, where eight local bands will compete for a grand prize of $3,000 and a show of their own in the Wolf Den.  Each competing band will perform a 25-minute set that will be a combination of both covers and original music.

Hot Summer Fun kicks the weekend off early with “Thirsty Thursdays.”   Every Thursday, specials are available at Johnny Rockets, Krispy Kreme, Jasper White’s Summer Shack and SolToro Tequila Grill and Mohegan Sun’s bars and lounges. Whether it’s martinis at Leffingwells or cocktails at the Taughannick Falls Bar, there is sure to be something for everyone during Hot Summer Fun’s “Thirsty Thursdays.” 
 
Great food and drinks are not the only thing on the menu this summer. Mohegan Sun, in conjunction with Spin Street, have a number of “Signings & Sightings” programs lined up including Sebastian Bach and fellow rockers Dokken on Tuesday, July 29th at 7:30pm in The Shops at Mohegan Sun concourse. And on August 15th, it’s double your pleasure as Rock fans will get to meet and greet there favorite stars of the group Testament, who open for the Metal Masters Tour featuring Judas Priest and Heaven and Hell.  The event will take place in The Shops Concourse at 5:00pm, just prior to their show in the Arena. The group will be signing copies of their newest CD project, The Formation of Damnation. That same night, Country music star Josh Gracin will also host a signings event in The Shops concourse immediately following his performance in the Wolf Den.

If you haven’t gotten your celebrity fix with our “Signings and Sightings” program, Mohegan Sun also will be rolling out the “Winning Authors” summer series with Phil Ramone on Saturday, July 5th. The legendary music producer who has lent his masterful studio talents to artists ranging from Billy Joel and Paul Simon to Tony Bennett and Ray Charles will be discussing his book Making Records: The Scenes Behind the Music with Rolling Stone critic Anthony DeCurtis.  Mohegan Sun’s “Winning Authors” program will follow up with a discussion and book signing by the hilarious, New York Times bestselling author Lewis Black on Saturday, July 19th.  Black will sign copies of his latest work Me of Little Faith.  Don’t miss your chance to get up-close-and-personal with some of the literary world’s brightest authors.

Hot Summer Fun is not just about parties, prizes, fireworks and food – it’s about the music too. The Wolf Den features some of yesterday and today’s favorite artists, seven days a week and all for free. This summer’s lineup includes: Bo Bice, Kansas, Eddie Money and Steve Azar.  Additionally, Mohegan Sun’s Cabaret Theatre will be host to acts such as Linda Eder, Josh Blue and Tony Orlando this summer.

Mohegan Sun Arena showcases some of the biggest names in the music industry as well as some of the most exciting sporting events anywhere. Some of the superstars coming to the Arena include Billy Joel, Sheryl Crow, the Eagles and Chris Rock. The Mohegan Sun Arena is also the home court of the acclaimed women’s basketball team, the Connecticut Sun.

Mohegan Sun is currently in the midst of Project Horizon – a multi-million dollar expansion that calls for a new 920-room hotel, featuring 261 House of Blues-themed rooms and an exclusive members-only House of Blues Foundation Room™. The expansion also includes additional retail and restaurant space, and a new 64,000 square-foot Casino of the Wind.   Upon full completion in 2010, Project Horizon is expected to add more than 1.4 million square feet to Mohegan Sun’s existing structure.
