Four
members of the Kiwanis Club of New London attended the recently held
Kiwanis International Convention in Orlando, FL in late June: Bob
Grills of New London, Rusty and Carol Ballestrini of Waterford and
Frank Penny formerly of Gales Ferry. The Kiwanis International
Convention will be held next year in Nashville, TN June 25-28, 2009.
In
other Kiwanis club news, the New England District of Kiwanis
Convention will be held in Danvers, MA the weekend of August 21-24.
Club President Tom Moriarty, Club Treasurer Rich Cheatham, Past
President Mac Pope and Past Distinguished New England District
Governor Marty Olsen will be delegates at the convention. Bob Grills
will be installed as Lt. Governor for Division 23 for 2008-09.
Division 23 is comprised of the Kiwanis Clubs of New London, Greater
Southeastern CT, Guilford/Shoreline, New Haven, Wallingford,
Cheshire, Glastonbury and Newington.
Valeda
Grills was recently elected to a one-year term to the position of
Vice-President of the Kiwanis Foundation of New England (KFNE). Mrs.
Grills is a Past Distinguished Lt. Governor. KFNE has over $3M in
assets and supports as its primary project the Kiwanis Pediatric
Trauma Institute (KPTI) that is housed at Tufts Medical Center in
Boston. KPTI provides research, education and development in the
acute area of pediatrics along with the new Hap Gerrish Registry,
which provides a global Internet information database for medical
personnel, such as EMT’s, nurses and doctors.
Kiwanis
is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the
