Police Incident Report: Dec. 17 to 23

The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in town. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

(SH) Chester

Wednesday, Dec. 17
No arrests were made.
• A suspicious incident at 308 West Main Street was investigated by Trooper Andrew Gwiazda at 9:31 a.m. No details were available.
• A 63-year-old woman was issued a citation at 2:09 p.m. for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart after the 2006 Ford Focus she was operating eastbound on West Main Street near #127 struck the rear of a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer operated by a 54-year-old Chester man who had stopped to allow traffic to exit a driveway. No injuries were reported at the scene.

Thursday, Dec. 18
No arrests were made.
• A 31-year-old Higganum man was issued a citation at 6:09 a.m. after he lost control of the 1989 Toyota 1/2-ton pick-up truck he was operating, struck a wire-rope guardrail, and rolled the truck over onto its left side. A Haddam ambulance was summoned to transport him to the Shoreline Clinic for evaluation.
• A 25-year-old Middleton woman was issued a citation at 3:41 p.m. after the 2002 Mercury Sable she was operating skidded in heavy snow and struck a metal-beam guardrail. No injuries were reported.

Friday, Dec. 19 to Saturday, Dec. 20
No arrests were made and no incidents were reported.

Sunday, Dec. 21
No arrests were made.
• At 3:14 p.m. police reported that a 48-year-old Higganum man was operating a 2006 Chevy Hummer when the vehicle slid off the road and struck a snow bank and a highway reflector sign. A 41-year-old woman of the same address was onboard. No injuries were reported and charges against the driver, if any, had yet to be determined.

Monday, Dec. 22
No arrests were made.
• A 28-year-old Newington woman was issued a citation at 8:03 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after the 2006 Honda accord she was operating struck the rear of a 1995 Jeep Cherokee operated by a 30-year-old Bristol man that had stopped for an existing accident. No injuries were reported.
• A 43-year-old Southington man was issued a citation at 8:13 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after the 1998 Nissan Maxima he was operating struck the rear of a 2004 Acura that had slowed for an existing accident. No injuries were reported. 

Tuesday, Dec. 23
No arrests were made.
• At 4:45 p.m. Officer Steven Redente reported that a Blackberry Pearl cell phone, color silver, was stolen from 19 North Main Street from a female victim. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chester Resident Trooper’s officer at 860-526-3605.



(SH) Deep River

Wednesday, Dec. 17
No arrests were made.
• An untimely death at 575 Winthrop Road was reported at 8:34 a.m. by Trooper Christopher Cope.
• A burglary at 98 Rattling Valley Road was investigated by Trooper Darwin Garnet at 7:02 p.m. No details were available.

Thursday, Dec. 18
• A 16-year-old youthful offender was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and assault in the third degree following an altercation in a bathroom at the Mount Saint John School for boys on Kirtland Street. During the dinner hour, the accused youth followed the victim into the bathroom to confront him about a previous incident. The two boys got into a verbal altercation and the accused struck the victim in the face.
• A narcotics violation on Dennison Road near Eagle Ridge was investigated by Officer Russell Gingras at 10:12 a.m. No details were available.

Friday, Dec. 19
No arrests were made.
• A 23-year-old man of Main Street was issued a citation at 10:06 p.m. for traveling too fast for condition after the 1998 Pontiac Gran Prix he was operating eastbound on Kirtland Street slid off the snow-slicked road at a curve near the intersection of Kirtland and River Streets. No injuries were reported.

Saturday, Dec. 20
No arrests were made and no incidents were reported.

Sunday, Dec. 21
• A 17-year-old youthful offender was arrested and charged with criminal mischief in the first degree and disorderly conduct after the youth created a disturbance by pulling a fire alarm. He was scheduled to be arraigned in court on the following day.
• A 50-year-old woman of Union Street was issued a written warning at 10:52 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after the 2001 Subaru Legacy she was operating westbound on Route 80 went out of control, crossed the eastbound lane, and struck a metal-beam guardrail on the south side of the road. A 14-year-old male passenger was onboard. No injuries were reported.

Monday, Dec. 22 to Tuesday, Dec. 23
No arrests were made and no incidents were reported.
 

(SH) Essex

Wednesday, Dec. 17
• A 35-year-old Clinton man was arrested at 7:43 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and evading responsibility in the operation of a motor vehicle (evading the scene) following an accident in which where was property damage and/or bodily injury. The accident occurred on Main Street in Centerbrook. He was processed and held on a $1,000 cash bond pending court arraignment on the following day.

Thursday, Dec. 18
• A 19-year-old Westbook man was arrested at 10:12 a.m. and charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and use and/or possession of drug paraphernalia following a motor vehicle stop on Eagle Ride Road near Dennison Road after the vehicle was observed traveling unreasonably fast. In the same incident a second 19-year-old Westbrook man was arrested and charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. Both were processed and released on $500 non-surety bonds bending Dec. 30 court dates.
• A 50-year-old Bristol man was issued a written warning at 5:59 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after the 2002 Chevy pick-up truck he was operating slid on icy road conditions and struck a metal-beam guardrail on the right side of the road. A male passenger of Plainville was onboard. No injuries were reported.
• A 26-year-old man of Sunset Terrace was issued a written warning at 6:30 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions when the 2003 GMC pick-up truck he was operating slid on ice and went off the roadway. No injuries were reported.
• A 31-year-old man of unrecorded address was issued a citation at 6:46 a.m. for traveling too fast for conditions after the 2002 Nissan XTerra he was operating skidded on ice and struck a bridge abutment. No injuries were reported.
• A burglary at 15 Truebe Road was investigated at 12:05 p.m. by Officer Salvatore Bevilacqua.

Friday, Dec. 19
No arrests were made.
• A 50-year-old East Hampton man was issued a citation at 4:21 a.m. for failure to drive right after the 2000 Chrysler Sebring he was operating westbound on Main Street went out of control and struck SNET pole #700. No injuries were reported.

Saturday, Dec. 20
No arrests were made and no incidents were reported.

Sunday, Dec. 21
No arrests were made.
• A 35-year-old woman of Deep River Road was issued a misdemeanor summons at 2:24 a.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under license suspension, failure to notify of change of address, and failure to have lights illuminated after the green Ford Taurus she was driving south on Route 154 near Route 9 exit 4 was stopped for having a front light out.

Monday, Dec. 22
• A 35-year-old man of Dennison Road was arrested at 10:31 a.m. on a warrant charging him with larceny in the third degree after he turned himself over to police. He was processed on a $500 cash bond and turned over to Stamford police who held the warrant.
• A 39-year-old man of East Brookfield, Massachusetts, was issued a written warning at 9:19 a.m. for making an improper turn after the 19998 Ford he was operating eastbound on Main Street sideswiped a parked 2003 Audi A6.

Tuesday, Dec. 23
No arrests were made and no incidents were reported.
