Children's Holiday Carnival at Spa at Norwich Inn

NORWICH --Three-year-old Jamir Muller receives a holiday gift from Santa and Mrs.Claus (via a thoughtful employee of The Spa at Norwich Inn) at the spa's recent Children's Holiday Carnival in the Grand Ballroom. With him are his mother, Leticia Goosby, and John G. O'Shaughnessy, general manager of The Spa at Norwich Inn. Jamir was one of 30 children from the New London Day Nursery in New London who shared the Holiday Carnival with 70 children of spa employees. This is the seventh year the Spa has hosted the party to celebrate the season by reaching out to a local non-profit agency that works to support the needs of children.

About Us

This red brick, Georgian Colonial Revival building was constructed with financing provided by the sale of shares in the property that were bought by Norwich residents and others who wanted to provide an Inn as a complement to the golf course next door. It hosted such celebrities as Charles Laughton and Frank Sinatra in its early years, when people came from big cities to the country to enjoy fresh air, golf, and local theater. During the week, "commercial travelers," a/k/a "traveling salesmen" used the Norwich Inn and other inns managed by the Treadway Group while traveling in their New England sales territories. The Norwich Inn also hosted innumerable weddings, proms, dances, retirement dinners and other special events. The property eventually fell on hard times, but it was resurrected and turned into a Spa in the late 1980. Celebrities including Barbra Streisand, Elle Macpherson, and Joan Rivers were regulars. Today, The Spa at Norwich Inn, totally remodeled and redecorated from 1998 to 2000, hosts one of the best-known Spas in New England, and celebrities such as Chris Rock, Barbara Walters, Regis & Joy Philpin and Gloria Estefan have visited to enjoy the spa, the fabulous food, the excellent fitness facilities and the peace and seclusion the property provides. While celebrities give the property a certain cachet, The Spa at Norwich Inn remains a relaxing and healing destination that welcomes people from the Norwich area, as well as Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and beyond.
